Welcome to the Spire Top 40 Cover Band Website.

SPIRE was essentially established by the dawn of the 21st Century, first known as Python, a 4 piece outfit that specialised in hard rock, blues and original material. By 2002, it was evident that Python had become the victim of illegal poaching as the drummer sadly relocated to Bloemfontein. Despite this massive blow, SPIRE rose like a phoenix from the ashes of Python and has carried the live rock concept forward.

The band’s core members remained and have been waging the war on wannabe Karaoke posers and overnight “superstars” ever since its emergence. SPIRE’s motto has always been to play loud fast and dangerous. At its molten core, the group was carried forward for almost a decade by the Perold brothers with Willem as lead vocalist, bassist and guitarist and Pieter on lead, rhythm and vocals. The lead vocalist has been compared to the likes of Freddy Mercury, Brian Johnson and John Bon Jovi. Pieter’s technical guitar playing prowess which is heavily influenced by Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen and Eddie Van Halen has shredded many Karaoke 3p-chord bands to pieces.

SPIRE has always “aspired” to face up to challenges of the South African music industry and has flourished on literally creating their own breaks within the live circuit. The band has overcome many challenges and has rocked venues such as Restaurants, within Shopping Centres as well as producing an Afrikaans music video which featured on live television for 5 seconds. But the best was yet to come. In the digital age of illegal music sharing, karaoke “sokkie-bokkies” and limited opportunities, the band funded and recorded their own debut album in 2011/2012, which was heavily rotated both on local and international campus radio stations.
